Holiday closures

A-share closures follow China’s national public-holiday schedule (the State Council’s holiday arrangement), mainly: New Year’s Day, Spring Festival / Chinese New Year (usually 7 days), Qingming, Labour Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day (usually 7–8 days). Exact dates and any make-up working days are announced by the State Council the year before, and the exchanges publish their own closure notices. In years when Mid-Autumn falls next to National Day the two are usually merged into one long break.

FAQ

What are China A-share trading hours?
The regular session runs 09:30–11:30 and 13:00–15:00 China Standard Time (UTC+8), 4 hours in total. The opening call auction accepts orders 09:15–09:25 and matches at 09:25; 14:57–15:00 is the closing call auction, during which orders cannot be cancelled.
Why is there a midday break?
A-shares keep a 90-minute lunch break (11:30–13:00), a long-standing convention. Some other Chinese-language markets such as Hong Kong have moved to continuous trading, but mainland A-shares still observe the midday recess.
Do the STAR Market and ChiNext have the same hours?
Yes — both trade 09:30–11:30 and 13:00–15:00. The STAR Market and ChiNext additionally offer after-hours fixed-price trading (15:05–15:30, executed at the closing price), which most users can ignore.
How many days does the market close for Chinese New Year?
Typically 7 days, from Lunar New Year’s Eve through the 6th day of the first lunar month; with weekend make-up arrangements it can be longer. Exact dates follow the State Council announcement — Quant Data Fetch update jobs automatically skip closed days.
Which statutory holidays close the A-share market?
New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming, Labour Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. The make-up-day schedule for each year is published on the State Council website, with matching closure notices from the exchanges. Check the SSE / SZSE homepage before a trading day to confirm.
